May 26: Memorial Day plays from MLB, NBA, NHL
Memorial Day weekend has already been exciting for sports fans with the Indianapolis 500, Coca-Cola 600 and UFC thrown into the mix with the NBA and NHL playoffs and full slates of major league baseball games, but we cap off the weekend with some intriguing contests on Monday.
MLB
I'll start with baseball total of a game that starts at 10 a.m. VFV Time. The Diamondbacks and Braves play in Atlanta in the final game of their series (hey, remember when Memorial Day used to be a day when most teams played doubleheaders and fans got two games for the price of one? Well, not only are there no twin bills scheduled on Monday, but eight teams have the day off). But I digress. These two teams combined for 12 runs with a decidedly "under" umpire behind the plate in Gary Cederstrom, and now on Monday they get Jim Reynolds, who is 7-1 with the over this season. This number is low, too, at 8 and if Arizona's Brandon Webb shuts down the Braves it could be hard to reach this number, but I think these teams can do it. PLAY: Diamondbacks-Braves OVER 8.
NBA
This is Game 4 in the Eastern Conference finals. After getting spanked on their home court by the Celtics in Game 3, the Pistons need to bounce back on Monday night. However, I'm not looking to lay the -6 that is being offered on Detroit. Instead, I'm going with under 175.5 points. This should be a war as the Pistons fight to even the series and they know they have to get back to Detroit b-ball and play tough defense. Boston is also playing better on defense, and with the Pistons' Chauncey Billups expected to see limited minutes, that should hold the score down as well. PLAY: Pistons-Celtics UNDER 175.5.
NHL
I already wrote before the series that I was taking the Penguins at Detroit in the first two games. And the Red Wings' 4-0 blowout in Game 1 doesn't change that. It's still only one game and the Penguins should be able to make adjustments and reach their goal of getting a split of the first two games in Detroit. PLAY: Penguins +150 to win straight up.
